English
The SWTT English course is aimed at developing the professional skills, knowledge and understanding, key to becoming a reflective and innovative practitioner who can provide creative, challenging and purposeful teaching. You will learn about current developments in the teaching of English and its place as a core subject in the National Curriculum.
Integrated into a school from the beginning of the course, you will receive subject-specific training on one day a week, that will inspire and enthuse you to immediately apply the theory and content of these sessions directly to school experience. Delivered by outstanding current practitioners, with the support of experienced and specially trained school mentors, the programme delivers an integrated programme of theoretical knowledge and practical skills enabling you to design and deliver engaging lessons based on solid subject knowledge.
The course is practical, hands on and intellectually demanding; sessions typically include simulations of classroom activities, specialist subject knowledge boosters, and sharing developments in pedagogy. These sessions provide support and challenge to help you progress. We use an online portal to support discussion, encourage creative teaching and to share experience and expertise. Assignments are focussed on your direct experience in the classroom. The course is supported by the expertise of Bath Spa University who provide teaching and academic support for the 3 assignments, library access and other resources. The assignments give you the opportunity to explore the most recent developments in educational policy, teaching and learning and link directly to your experience in school as emerging practitioners.
This is the perfect time to become an English teacher. As digital developments redefine our concept of literacy, the secondary English classroom is an exciting, creative and innovative place to be.
