SEND QTS Program
This year, we are excited to launch a QTS program with a SEND specialism, highlighting our commitment to supporting children in the communities we serve. The South West Teacher Training course in SEND is offered with Maths, English, Sciences, and PE as core subject options.
This specialist course is designed to develop the professional skills, knowledge, and understanding essential for becoming a reflective and innovative practitioner. It provides a possible pathway to becoming a SENCo or working in Alternative Provision settings. Trainees will explore current developments in their subject area and its role as a core subject within the National Curriculum.
Integrated and Practical Learning
From the outset, trainees are fully integrated into a school environment, receiving subject-specific training that inspires and equips them to apply theory directly to classroom practice. Delivered by outstanding current practitioners, with the support of experienced and specially trained school mentors, this program offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This approach empowers trainees to design and deliver engaging, effective lessons grounded in strong subject knowledge.
SEND and Alternative Provision
The program delves deeply into the field of Special Educational Needs (SEND) and Alternative Provision, areas where it is crucial to have committed, informed, and skilled teachers. Trainees will study specific pedagogies for SEND learners and gain a robust understanding of the statutory and regulatory context of SEND provision.
Schools we work with- Brook Green Plymouth, The Outdoor Group and Ace Schools.
Innovative and Engaging Sessions
The course is practical, hands-on, and intellectually challenging. Typical sessions include:
- Simulations of classroom activities.
- Specialist subject knowledge boosters.
- Updates on the latest developments in pedagogy.
- Opportunities to attend conferences and network with other educators in your subject area.
- Future Senco Ted Wragg sessions
Who Should Apply
Applicants to this program are expected to demonstrate relevant experience working in SEND or Alternative Provision settings. For those without prior experience, the main subject route includes targeted training and exposure to SEND environments.
There are also salaried roles available for the right candidates, offering an excellent opportunity to train while earning.
